I’ve been filming and working on my first pattern, a dress shirt with a mandarin collar, for several days now. I’ve got well over ten hours into the shirt, not including the time it took to get the fabric and pre-wash it.
I don’t know how folks do it. I mean, maybe if I made 1000 shirts I could do one in a day.
I could get there, I suppose.
Right now, though, its all about learning. And I’ve got to say, I’m having a a lot of fun. Each step in the process has been something almost wholly new. And mind numbing, sometimes.
I’ve had to rip seams and start over.
I’ve messed up my shirting and it looks hideous. Maybe everything does if you look too closely.
Still, though, I’ve said I wouldn’t wear it in public because of some of these mistakes, but the closer I get to finishing it the more I think I will. Even if it doesn’t fit great or look perfect or whatever. It’ll still be mine.
It deserves at least one night on the town.
