A Video Editing Confessional

06/09/2026

I’ve made a few videos for the various social media platforms I’m engaged with, and I’ve got some confessions to make.

Just the phrase “video editing” gave me the bugs-up-your-spine jitters. I encountered reality and found that no bugs awaited me. Having never edit a video in my life other than cutting down the length of one on my phone, I was near petrified.

I downloaded the first and most popular free edit software I found to my desktop, opened it without reading a thing of instructional direction, and started clicking things.

To my surprise, I broke nothing, deleted nothing important, and could even begin to find my way into the free features that make videos more watchable.

I know zilch about good lighting or sound, but there’s a lot of good automatic equalizers for both out there, apparently.

At this point, I’ve even started stitching together multiple clips into a single video, something I thought you needed a degree for.

I was wrong.

I won’t say I’m proficient or even any good at it, but the fact that a complete beginner could make something actually watchable in a completely digital environment in just a couple of minutes or an hour is dumbfounding.

Here’s to continuing this journey together. I made a clip of me singing a verse of a sewing song I made up. I reckon songs may figure prominently on my channels from here on out. Gives me a reason to keep practicing and playing my piano and guitar.

I’m excited to see you down the road.
