After a lifetime staying off of social media, I’ve decided to dip my toe off into the ocean of the internet. I’ve just today made a YouTube channel, and Instagram page, and an account on TikTok. The best part about all this is that I have no idea how they work or what exactly to do with them. That said, I’ve got some ideas.
Seems like the best thing to do is be honest about how little I know. I’ve never edited a video or worn a lapel mic or even handled a tripod for my phone, but I’ve purchased those things and even downloaded some video editing equipment.
My social media presence will revolve around sewing, something I’ve long been attracted to but don’t have much experience with. I’ve hand sewn exactly one shirt in my lifetime, almost ten years ago. I have done some repair work by hand as well, but those were few and far between. Sewing will be the vehicle I’ll use to explore this new (for me) frontier.
I also envision talking about writing, books, fashion, music, and a few other things.
I’ve decided now’s the time for a few reasons: my therapist says I’ve got to get a hobby that isn’t writing. Not everything can revolve around the written word.
A good friend (another writer) told me in no uncertain terms to get a life. They were hard words to hear, but he’s right. I reckon knowing when to listen is half the battle.
So, I’d like you to come on this journey with me as I discover what its like to be in your 30s and no very little about how all this works. I’ll be unboxing sewing equipment. I’ll be learning how to read patterns and use a machine. I’ll be trying to figure out what makes a good video. I’ll be having fun the whole way.
