Giveaway Project Number 2 / Fly Fishing Reel Case

08/11/2026

Really a fun time with this project. The good news is, I can see my sewing skills improving significantly. The projects I’m making are also informing the ideas I’m working toward.

I just made a fly fishing reel case after a discussion with a friend after fishing this Saturday. I spent most of the weekend locked in on the case, which went through three prototypes and ended with a really great little padded case that I’m going to give to Joe as a present for being such a good guy and for giving me the idea.

I also learned how to make a buttonhole without using the automatic buttonhole feature on my machine. I think the foam inside the fabric pieces was preventing the thing from moving while the buttonhole foot was on. Anyhow, I learned to make one with a simple zig-zag stitch by increasing and decreasing the stitch length and stitching with and without the feed dogs engaged.

All in all, this was quite the learning weekend.

I’ll have to pick out a new project soon. Wonder what it’ll be…
