Issue 60 of the fine magazine, The Talking River Review, is finally out. My story, The Last Ride, is featured.
I’ve so excited to be included in this great journal. It has featured a lot of amazing writers in the past, some of them my former teachers. It is an honor for my story to be selected for this issue.
The story is a bit of a departure for me. I usually write crime, mystery, spooky, creepy, or dramatic stories, but this one is, well, sweet. Heartfelt, is a word I think does well to encapsulate it. The story is overly nice or anything like that, but it doesn’t have my normal flow of death and murder weaved throughout.
It was very fun to write, though.
The idea came to me after hearing a story about a cab driver. About a week later, I wondered what it would be like to be a cabbie and pick up folks from all walks of life. Then I thought about the range of life, from birth to the end of one’s days. All that informed the story. I think it worked out all right.
